About The Location: Gir National Park is known worldwide as the only natural habitat of the majestic Asiatic lions. However, the park also boasts of a rich birdlife, making it a paradise for birdwatchers. The park is spread over an area of 1,412 sq km and is located near Junagadh and Gir Somnath districts of Gujarat.

Gir National Park is home to over 300 species of birds, both resident and migratory. Some of the commonly spotted birds include the Indian Pitta, Paradise Flycatcher, Black-headed Oriole, Tickell's Blue Flycatcher, Indian Roller, White-bellied Drongo, and many more. The park is also home to some rare bird species such as the Bonelli's Eagle, Crested Serpent Eagle, and the endangered White-backed Vulture.

Apart from bird watching, visitors can also indulge in jungle safaris to spot the Asiatic lions and other wildlife such as leopards, hyenas, sambar deer, chitals, and more. The best time to visit the park for bird watching is during the winter months from November to February, when many migratory birds flock to the park.
